Figure 12 reflects some of the experience gained at the Belgrade Groundwater Source, where long-term monitoring has revealed an extraordinary reduction in bank-filtrate oxygen consumption on its way from the river to the abstraction wells. The reduction in KMnO4 demand was noted in both the Sava River water and the blended groundwater.


Figure  13 shows the effects of eliminating organic carbon by bank filtration along the way from the Rhine River to abstraction wells Schmidt et al. ( 2008a, b).
